Rick Siemer, President of Siemer Milling Company, spoke at the Respect Life rally in Granite City on October 12th sharing his perspective on community support for expectant mothers and celebrating the success of a local initiative in Effingham, Illinois.
In his address, Rick Siemer reflected on the 2022 Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, putting an end to Roe v. Wade, as well as its impact on our communities’ responsibility to support women facing challenging pregnancies. He emphasized that a necessary element of the pro-life commitment lies in active support and practical solutions.
Siemer shared the inspiring story of El Shaddai Home, a residential facility located in Effingham, Illinois for expectant mothers that opened in late 2023. The project, spearheaded by local business owner Lisa Krampe and supported by community members, transformed the former Brookstone assisted living facility in Effingham into a haven for pregnant women in need.
“It was one of the few times in my life that I felt God was delivering a message directly and personally to me,” Siemer noted about his involvement in the project.
In its first year of operation, El Shaddai Home has already made a significant impact:
● Provided housing and support for a number of expectant mothers
● Celebrated the birth of nine babies
● Offered 24-hour supervision while encouraging independence
● Created a supportive environment where residents can maintain employment and self-sufficiency
The success of El Shaddai Home demonstrates how business leaders, community members, and organizations can work together to create meaningful change. As Siemer concluded his speech, he emphasized the importance of continuing this vital work with “joy and courage, to do God’s will.”
